Rape — whose fault is it?

In today's society and this decadent era, there are diverse views on rape, people classify it in different forms and people judge it from different views.

There have been many controversies on this particular topic, and everyone has expressed their thoughts based on their point of view.

I don't know about you, but according to me, saying that ‘a girl provokes rape’ is simple uncalled for and disgusting. I recall discussing this same topic on a particular day with a few friends, some had claimed that girls provoke rape with what they wear, and how they dress.

Yes, I will admit, indecent dressing is wrong, but these do not give anyone the right,  to trample on someone else's right,  no one has the right to be intimate with a girl without  her consent,  it's  wrong, demeaning, uncalled for and completely  disgusting.

 No means no!

Rape is also a part of Violence against women! Who in their right mind tries to justify  that?!

A person's dress, actions,  behaviour and even seductive advances, does not give anyone the right to violate them! the moment a girl says no, it means she's uncomfortable  and dosen't consent  to what ever was about to happen.

But society always wants the easy way out, it's easier to say the girl is at fault, it's easier to blame her upbringing, then again what about those other girls that also get raped, what about those girl that wear long skirts and long gowns, those girls that wear  decent dresses,  that come from decent homes and have proper upbringing,  but still get raped

What about those girls? who never gave out any advances,  those girls who were probably  just running errands. And, don't come at me with that ‘ a girl should not go out at late hours’ I agree that it is wrong,  but it does not justify rape,  it does not justify  smeering a person's  dignity through mud,  it does not justify scarring a person's mind and  Denying  them the right to a normal life.

As a matter of fact nothing justifys rape,  whether indecent dressing, or seductive actions, late night hours or secluded areas. Last I checked, we live in a free world,  girls live a free world,  they have right to movement,  association and freedom of expression, everyone has their own lifestyle and though we may not agree with it, that dosen't mean we should stigmatize  them! And blame them for rape!

Societal views are so repetitive  that it has become stereotyped in the new generation, we should seek for change!  Long gone are the days when gender discrimation  was strong enough to pull the youths  downs,  now there are empowerment  programmes,  there are avenues, there are advocacy means an enlightment platforms,  why are we wasting opportunities?

At this point,  I don't blame the Victim or rape,  or the depraved culprit,  I blame society, yes,  people are not giving enough  importance  to this particular issues if the penalty for rape was severe, if there were more public enlightment on the signs of harassment, and how to deal with it,  on how to seek help, we wouldn't be in a situation  like this.

Instead, girls are brainwashed and forced to believe that wearing long clothes and isolating themselves  can  prevent rape, I laugh in Spanish.

We have influences at our finger tips,  we have the power to influence this generation  and the next,  and futures ones, but like I said its easier to blame the  girl, and makes exclamations than carry out real actions.

Then again these are just my views, this is my perspective, you don't have to accept of believe my views,  because  in the end there is no clear definition  of right and wrong, in the end society has a vast grip on the youth.

While rape continues to eat them up,  slowly.
