BULLYING: MY EXPERIENCE

I stared fixedly at the mirror. Eyes locked and gaze firm, my mind engrossed in whatever thought had for a known reason swallowed me.   At a first glance anyone who thinks that I was just another 16 years old, worried about looking pretty for the day Oh, how wrong they were!  Even in my trance, I felt Tayo's eyes on me he was the only one that knew, the only one that understood. I wasn't admiring my features, I wasn't checking for the best outfit or the perfect pose. I was diligently looking for a flaw, something to criticize, maybe that pimple that made me look awkward, or was it the way I smiled? No, it had to be the way walked, or was it just my existence that was the problem? Now, all these assumptions were to answer one question, a question I asked myself ever since I walked through the doors of High school.        WHY ME? What made me different? What flaw did I possess that was so disgusting? What sin did I commit that was so unforgivable, I couldn't remembe...

Despite all the difficulties. It was not until Tuesday 20th October 2020, a day that has been declared BLACK TUESDAY that Nigeria faced it's worst crisis, THE LEKKI MASSCRE. The book: Narrow

The book Narrow is an American  based novel,  written in first person narrative  which focuses on the troubles and challenges  of the main character  Victoria Dante.        It focuses  on the narrow path she was coerced into to waking through a narrow path — barefoot.  With so many pebble and stones and rocks, it focuses on her journey from pain,  depression, death, hatred,  revenge and of course remorse.        You see,  the one thing about this book  that I love so much,  was the author made the main  character experience  the different  aspects of life and various problems,  the character  was made to go through various challenges, where she was seen at her weakest and it focused  on how she reacted to each situation  and problem that came her way.   The main character,  Victoria Dante was portrayed as an emotionally broken,  anti social teenager,  who has yearned for only one thing — love.  She was brought up by her aunt after she was abandoned by her father at the age of t...

Rape — whose fault is it?

In today's society and this decadent era, there are diverse views on rape, people classify it in different forms and people judge it from different views.       There have been many controversies on this particular topic, and everyone has expressed their thoughts based on their point of view.      I don't know about you, but according to me, saying that ‘ a girl provokes rape’ is simple uncalled for and disgusting. I recall discussing this same topic on a particular day with a few friends, some had claimed that girls provoke rape with what they wear, and how they dress.        Yes, I will admit, indecent dressing is wrong, but these do not give anyone the right,  to trample on someone else's right,  no one has the right to be intimate with a girl without   her consent,  it's  wrong, demeaning, uncalled for and completely  disgusting.    No means no!  Rape is also a part of Violence against women! Who in their right mind tries to justify  that?!     ...

When I first began writing, I wrote for myself, I wrote only how I felt, for me poetry was all about me, but when I net you guys I was able to think outside the box, knowing I had people that actually wanted to read what I write, it gave me the motivation to keep on writing, I wasn't writing for myself, or about my thoughts, I wasn't writing because I wanted to get popular and gain followers, I wrote and write because I realised, that my words could reach someone and make them feel Taht they are not alone That in this toxic world, they can have a breath of fresh air, because someone out there one way or another relates to them to how they feel, I could never understand how the human mind works, but after exploring mine I realised it's an endless maze just like life filled with so many turns, circles and rough edges, in a continuously r...

depression: The silent killer

Ever felt restless, and disoriented? Even felt confused or absent minded? a pinch of sadness with a drop of inferiority- that's depression      It's practically a disorder that feeds on your thoughts and swallows your self esteem and pride whole, it drains you till you're nothing but ashes or a mere name on a grave stone.    Sadly we allow it, we allow this disease, disorder, monster menace, to control, to dictate us, we start over thinking, creating problems that aren't there, deducing information that doesn't exist, we slowly lose our self confidence and dignity, we lose ourselves.        But, that monster, that menace doesn't stop there, it feeds on our insecurities fueling negativity and pessimism, it makes us look down on ourselves, blurring the line between black and white. our reality disappears, us fading into an illusional world whose only objective -is our destruction         At first it seems like nothing we cry ...

insecurities

Image
people are literally stereotyped to worry about everything and anything, while some worry about their appearances others worry about critiques and their personalities.        Unknowingly judging themselves and pointing  out the flaws creating an unhealthy self consciousness  that takes away their piece of mind, they start to base their worth on the words of others and not their thoughts, they allow the judgments of people to toy with their personality, they become insecure and restless full of doubt and uncertainty, they slowly loose sight of who they are and what they're Worth.          People start to self isolate, they stay away from judgmental eyes and critiques. The painful partis that by doing this, they have practically given those people the right to judge them and influence their lies. I wrote a quote, based on critique. ' good or not, people will talk , guilty or not, people will judge, righteous or not society will condemn'         Literally, whether we do o...
